The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature goat with it origins in West
Africa. They are enjoying a rise in popularity due to their small
size, ease of handling and colorful markings. Their small stature
means they do not require as much space or feed as their
larger dairy goat counterparts and their gentle and friendly
personalities make them good companion pets. A healthy
Nigerian Dwarf doe can produce a surprising amount of sweet
milk - up to two quarts per day. In addition, Nigerian Dwarf milk
is higher in butterfat (6-10%) and protein than milk from most
other dairy goat breeds.
Ideal height of Nigerian Dwarf does will measure no more than
22 1/2” at the withers and bucks will measure no more than 23
1/2" at the withers. Ideal weight is suggested to be about 75
lbs. These tiny goats with big personality have a typical
lifespan between 13-20 years, depending on care.
Nigerian Dwarfs are classified as recovering by the American
Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
